Overview

Operations Manager

Atlacomulco

Mexico

Morgan Advanced Materials develops and manufactures specialist materials that end up in demanding applications across energy, transportation, aerospace & defence, semiconductors and industrial markets.

We are looking for an Operations Manager to lead our Atlacomulco site. This is a broad manufacturing leadership role with responsibility across Production, Engineering, Quality, Maintenance, Continuous Improvement and EHS.

This is an opportunity to make a real impact. We are looking for a leader who can improve operational performance, develop our people, and drive continuous improvement while ensuring safety remains at the heart of everything we do. Success will require a hands-on approach, strong leadership, and the ability to turn strategy into results.

The Role

You will provide day-to-day leadership for the Atlacomulco site, reporting to the Manufacturing Director, Finishing, within our Performance Carbon business.

Your priorities will be to ensure safe, efficient operations, consistent production performance, high quality standards, effective cost management, and the delivery of meaningful continuous improvement.

Beyond operational leadership, you will help shape the site's future through capital investment projects, talent development, succession planning, and the execution of longer-term operational strategy.

Responsibilities

What You’ll Do

  • Lead Production, Engineering, Quality, Maintenance, Continuous Improvement and EHS across the site.
  • Own operational performance across safety, quality, delivery, productivity and cost.
  • Drive Lean, OPEX and continuous improvement activity, turning opportunities into sustained improvements.
  • Improve manufacturing performance and operating margins through better processes, quality and cost management.
  • Set and use meaningful KPIs to understand performance, spot trends and focus teams on the right priorities.
  • Champion a strong safety culture and ensure EHS requirements are understood and followed by employees, contractors and visitors.
  • Lead and develop managers and teams, building capability, accountability and succession plans for the future.
  • Manage employee relations effectively, including within a unionised manufacturing environment.
  • Develop capital investment proposals where equipment, processes or capacity need to improve.
  • Work closely with HR, Finance, Supply Chain and colleagues across the wider business.
  • Represent Atlacomulco with internal and external stakeholders

Qualifications

What You’ll Bring

We are looking for a proven manufacturing leader with a track record of delivering operational results and driving improvement.

You will ideally bring:

  • Significant leadership experience within a manufacturing or industrial environment.
  • Experience managing functions such as production, engineering and technical operations, ideally with broader site-level responsibility.
  • Fluent Spanish and advanced English, both are essential for this role.
  • A strong track record of improving safety, quality, productivity, delivery and cost.
  • Practical experience of Lean, operational excellence or continuous improvement.
  • An uncompromising approach to EHS and safe manufacturing.
  • Strong people leadership skills, including developing managers and building effective teams.
  • Demonstrable experience handling labour and employee relations in a unionised environment.
  • Good commercial and financial judgement. Experience working with operating budgets, manufacturing costs and a P&L would be particularly useful.
  • A degree in Engineering, Supply Chain, Operations Management or a related discipline, or equivalent experience gained through senior operational leadership.

Experience within carbon, graphite, advanced materials, or precision machining environments would be advantageous, particularly with products such as vanes, seals, and bearings. However, we place greater value on proven manufacturing leadership and a track record of delivering operational results. Most importantly, you will be an authentic change leader, able to explain the "why," engage people around a shared vision, and deliver improvements that endure.

What You’ll Get

This is a senior, visible role with genuine ownership of the Atlacomulco operation and the opportunity to influence both its immediate performance and longer-term direction.

You will join Morgan Advanced Materials' Performance Carbon business and work with colleagues locally and globally, while retaining a clear focus on what needs to happen on the factory floor.

Specific compensation, benefits and working arrangements should be confirmed as part of the recruitment process.
