Management Accountant

Job Description Overview

Morgan Advanced Materials is looking for a Management Accountant to support the financial performance of our Stourport manufacturing site. Reporting to the Finance Manager, you will be responsible for management accounts, budgeting, forecasting, cost analysis and business partnering, helping to drive operational performance and support strategic decision-making across the site.

Responsibilities

• Prepare monthly management accounts and financial reports for the Stourport site.
• Post month-end journals and support period-end close activities.
• Perform detailed variance analysis against budgets and forecasts, identifying risks and opportunities.
• Support the annual budgeting and forecasting process.
• Prepare cash flow forecasts and monitor business performance.
• Maintain and develop the standard costing system, including analysis of cost variances.
• Partner with production, engineering and operational teams to identify cost-saving and process improvement opportunities.
• Manage inventory accounting, including stock valuation, obsolescence provisions, intercompany transactions and goods in transit.
• Support working capital initiatives, helping to reduce inventory levels and improve cash performance.
• Produce timely financial information and meaningful management reports to support decision-making.
• Ensure compliance with internal controls, financial regulations and Group policies.
• Support capital expenditure projects through financial analysis and investment appraisal.
• Work closely with the Finance Manager to deliver robust forecasts and provide insight into business performance.
• Collaborate with the Shared Service Centre to ensure accurate and timely financial reporting.

Qualifications / Experience Required

• Part-qualified CIMA, ACCA or equivalent accounting qualification, with a desire to continue professional development.
• Minimum 2-3 years' experience in a Management Accountant or similar finance role within a manufacturing environment.
• Experience preparing management accounts, budgets, forecasts and month-end reporting.
• Strong understanding of cost accounting, standard costing and variance analysis.
• Experience with inventory accounting, stock valuation and working capital management.
• Proficiency in ERP and financial systems, along with strong Excel skills.
• Ability to analyse complex financial data and provide clear, actionable insights.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to build relationships across Finance, Operations and Engineering teams.
• Proactive, self-motivated and able to work independently while managing multiple priorities.
• Excellent attention to detail and ability to meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
• Continuous improvement mindset with a focus on driving efficiencies and supporting business performance.

Preferred:

• Previous experience within a manufacturing or engineering organisation.
• Experience partnering closely with operational teams to drive cost reduction and process improvement initiatives.
• Knowledge of standard costing systems and manufacturing KPIs.
