The Technical Ceramics business of Morgan Advanced Materials engineers high performance functional and structural ceramic materials, components and sub-assemblies to address customer-specific technical challenges.

Responsibilities

Morgan Advanced Materials is seeking a hands-on Quality Engineer to join our Hudson manufacturing team. You will work directly with machinists, CNC programmers, operators, supervisors, and engineers to solve problems at the point of occurrence, strengthen manufacturing controls, and improve product and process quality.

 

This is an active manufacturing role for an engineer who enjoys combining dimensional inspection, data analysis, process improvement, and practical shop-floor problem solving. The Quality Engineer independently manages routine and moderately complex assignments and works with the Senior Quality Engineer on complex, systemic, or customer-sensitive issues.

What You Will Do

  • Partner directly with machinists, CNC programmers, operators, supervisors, and engineers to resolve quality concerns and improve manufacturing performance.
  • Maintain a regular presence in manufacturing and inspection areas, observe actual process conditions, and address problems at the point of occurrence.
  • Participate in daily accountability, production reviews, first-piece and setup reviews, new-product activities, and continuous-improvement initiatives.
  • Interpret engineering drawings, specifications, CAD models, tolerances, and GD&T and translate requirements into practical manufacturing and inspection controls.
  • Develop and maintain inspection plans, Process Flow Diagrams, PFMEAs, Control Plans, sampling methods, reaction plans, and acceptance criteria.
  • Program, validate, troubleshoot, and maintain CMM and other dimensional or visual inspection methods.
  • Apply measurement-system analysis, Gage R&R, SPC, capability analysis, and validation methods to improve process and inspection performance.
  • Lead routine and moderately complex investigations, working with process owners to establish containment, determine root causes, and implement sustainable corrective actions.
  • Support new products, engineering changes, process and equipment qualifications, Material Review Board activities, product-release decisions, customer issues, supplier quality, and audits.
  • Use quality, yield, scrap, rework, process, tool-life, and inspection data to identify improvement opportunities and verify results.

What You Will Bring

  • Bachelor's degree in mechanical, manufacturing, materials, industrial, quality engineering, or a related technical discipline, or an equivalent combination of education and directly relevant experience.
  • Two or more years of manufacturing quality, process, product, or manufacturing engineering experience.
  • Ability to interpret engineering drawings, specifications, tolerances, and GD&T.
  • Experience with dimensional inspection and CMM operation or programming.
  • Working knowledge of structured problem solving, process controls, statistical analysis, validation, and measurement-system analysis.
  • Strong technical writing, data-analysis, communication, organization, and cross-functional problem-solving skills.
  • A collaborative and practical approach, with the willingness to spend meaningful time in manufacturing and inspection areas.

Qualifications

Preferred Experience

  • Advanced ceramics, chemical vapor deposition, semiconductor products, ultra-high-purity materials, or precision machining.
  • PFMEA, Control Plans, RCCA, SPC, capability studies, validation, MSA, or Gage R&R.
  • Calypso, PC-DMIS, Minitab, SolidWorks, or comparable systems.
  • Supplier quality, customer quality, product qualification, or engineering change management.
  • Quality engineering, structured problem-solving, statistical, or Lean Six Sigma training.

  • Manufacturing personnel view Quality as a responsive and credible technical partner.
  • Quality concerns are addressed promptly and close to the point of occurrence.
  • Inspection methods and manufacturing controls are practical, capable, and repeatable.
  • Corrective actions address verified causes and remain effective.
  • Improvements contribute to stronger first-pass yield, lower scrap and rework, and more stable manufacturing processes.

Development Opportunity

  • This position provides the opportunity to build increasing independence in quality planning, metrology, validation, statistical analysis, process improvement, and structured problem solving. The Quality Engineer receives technical guidance from the Senior Quality Engineer on complex assignments while developing toward broader technical leadership.
