Responsibilities

 

  • Provide feedback on daily routine inspection of machines and equipment.
  • Overhauling units in the workshop after being given instruction by the maintenance Supervisor.
  • Perform scheduled and allocated maintenance services and provide feedback to the Supervisor.
  • Adhere to the ‘T’ card system and ensure that it is kept up to date and works efficiently.
  • Inform the Supervisor of the consumables that require ordering and repairing.
  • In ‘downtimes’ use the time productively to implement best practices/training
  • Fit parts into machinery and equipment using tools to cut, file, plane, bore and drill metal.
  • Diagnose problems on the machines and report issues to the supervisor.
  • Replace damaged or defective structural components as required.
  • Ensure adherence to safety protocols when working with machinery and tools.
  • Report any potential hazards or safety concerns to supervisors.
  • Wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) and ensure a clean and safe working environment.
  • Carry out other reasonable duties as required
  • Operate machinery, including polishing and grinding equipment, grind any metal workpieces to their prescribed specifications to ensure high-quality products.
  • Inspect machinery and workpieces to ensure that they remain compliant with specifications to reduce any malfunctions and associated loss of production.
  • Stop any machines upon discovery of a problem and make the required adjustments as quickly as possible to minimize downtime.
  • Finish products using hand tools to ensure that the surfaces are filed and finished accordingly.
  • Keep all equipment running by inspecting and performing basic maintenance, including lubrication and cleaning, as well as scheduling repairs when needed.
  • Be compliant and observant to the required safety standards at all times.
  • Set up the machine and maintain housekeeping.
  • Ensure grinding wheels are dressed according to specifications for the machine to remain at peak working capability.
  • Grinding - Put the brush on a rail and ensure the width, length and thickness are measured and ground to size.
  • Chamfering & Radius - Measure the brush, chamfer & radius to size.
  • Take brushes to the inspector for sign off and to ensure that the brushes are within the specification.

  • Minimum Grade 10-12 or Equivalent with 2-3 years of working experience.
  • Ability to interpret drawings and use hand tools.
  • The ability to demonstrate good problem solving and decision-making skills.
  • Practical skills for repairing and maintaining equipment.
  • Ability to work both as part of a team and under own initiative giving regular feedback to the supervisor.
  • Ability to work under fast paced environment with a high level of attention to detail.
