Overview

OpEx Engineer

San Juan del Río, Querétaro – On-site

Help us make things better, faster, safer — every day.

Morgan Advanced Materials makes high‑performance materials that end up in products used around the world. We’re headquartered in the UK, operate in 30+ countries, and have about 9,000 people who all care about doing things properly.
In San Juan del Río, we’re strengthening our Lean and Continuous Improvement capability. This role sits at the heart of that effort. If you enjoy turning chaos into order, spotting waste a mile away, and helping teams work smarter, not harder — you’ll fit right in.

The Role

You’ll drive the Morgan Production System across Site 1 and Site 2. That means working hands‑on with production, supply chain, engineering, quality, HR, finance, and whoever else needs your help. You’ll run Kaizen events, map processes, coach teams, fix problems, and push improvement projects that actually stick — not just the ones that look good on a slide.

Morgan Advanced Materials is a business rich in history and innovation. Founded in the UK in 1856, we have grown into a global organisation with 70 sites in 18 countries. Our model to serve our customers where they need us has led to a diversified product range using our unparalleled expertise in ceramic and carbon materials, which we exploit to solve difficult problems for our customers across a diverse range of markets.

We are a purpose driven organisation. Our purpose is to use advanced materials to make the world more sustainable and to improve the quality of life. We deliver on that purpose through the products that we make, and the way that we make them.

The Technical Ceramics business of Morgan Advanced Materials engineers high performance functional and structural ceramic materials, components and sub-assemblies to address customer-specific technical challenges.

Key Figures: Revenue £1,100.7m (2024), ~8,000 employees, manufacturing in 20+ countries, and a global customer portfolio. A UK PLC with head office located in Windsor, Berkshire UK.  Listed on London Stock Exchange; Member of the FTSE 250 Index.

Responsibilities

  • Run and sustain Lean, Kaizen, and continuous improvement initiatives across both sites.
  • Lead cost‑reduction and process‑optimization projects that deliver real savings.
  • Map value streams and build improvement plans based on actual data.
  • Train and coach teams on Lean tools, shop‑floor management, and problem solving.
  • Manage the plant’s savings portfolio and CIP idea system.
  • Guide and coordinate teams during Kaizen events (and lived to tell the tale).
  • Track KPIs and identify where performance isn’t where it should be.
  • Support layout changes, material‑handling improvements, and standard work.
  • Apply 6S, visual management, A3 problem solving, and abnormality management.
  • Help maintain safe, compliant operations — stopping non‑compliant processes when needed.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Industrial, Mechanical, or Process Engineering.
  • 3–5 years of hands‑on Lean Manufacturing experience.
  • Experience applying Six Sigma/DMAIC in a manufacturing environment.
  • Skilled in Microsoft Office; able to communicate clearly with everyone from operators to leadership.
  • Comfortable leading workshops, coaching teams, and driving change in real operations.
  • Strong problem‑solving approach, critical thinking, and calm under pressure.
  • Leadership and negotiation skills — you’ll use these more than you think.

Nice to Have

  • Green Belt certification.
  • CAD software skills.
  • Knowledge of JIT systems (Kanban, FIFO, supermarkets, leveling, one‑piece flow).
  • Intermediate English.
  • Experience with Kaizen breakthrough methods or similar.

What You’ll Get

A role where your work truly moves the needle — on safety, cost, quality, and how smoothly the plant runs. You’ll work with a team that’s open to new ideas and actually implements them. You’ll also get the standard company benefits, development opportunities, and the chance to shape how Continuous Improvement works across the site.
