The Technical Ceramics business of Morgan Advanced Materials engineers high performance functional and structural ceramic materials, components and sub-assemblies to address customer-specific technical challenges.

Responsibilities

Job Purpose:

The Assistant Controller will carry out accounting, analysis, reporting and control activities for the manufacturing site in New Bedford MA, ensuring finance activities are carried out efficiently and effectively. The New Bedford Financial Controller will also work closely with the global finance teams to ensure important coordination on processes, information sharing, receivables collection, supplier payments and other business-critical functions.

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Responsibility for all operational accounting functions e.g., cost accounting, variance analysis, working capital control etc.
  • Coordinating with the central finance teams to ensure legal/statutory compliance and tax efficiency for the New Bedford operation.
  • Work with Site Managers to review cost variances and assist in developing mitigation plans.
  • Prepares reports which summarize and forecast company business activity and financial position in areas of income, expenses, and earnings based on past, present, and expected operations.
  • Prepare forecasts and annual budgets. Drive an effective approach to budgeting, forecasting, and reporting which supports the business needs and dovetails with the accountancy process in place and provide an insightful overview of business performance.
  • Ensure the business maintains robust internal controls which will ensure compliance with financial regulations and group policies.
  • Ensuring the balance sheet is reconciled and controlled effectively (g., ensuring appropriate inventory valuation, fixed asset register maintained etc.)
  • Manage monthly internal control reporting into FloQast system
  • Preparation of company reporting pack
  • Interface with external and internal auditors.
  • Liaise and interface with external agencies and Morgan’s specialist (tax, insurance)
  • Direct external audits of company’s accounts.
  • Prepare reports required by regulatory agencies as needed
  • Participate in annual physical inventory, determine level of participation in quarterly inventory
  • Oversee finance record retention and archival / shipment to storage and appropriate catalogue of electronic finance records
  • Other duties as assigned by Manager

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
  • 5-8 years plus related experience/training.
  • Certified Public Accountant (CPA) preferred.
  • Experience of ownership of financial reporting and control working for a global multinational company.
  • Demonstrable significant experience of operational/manufacturing finance (g., standard cost accounting, variance analysis, financial control, etc.).
  • Ability to advise on operational and strategic financial matters.
  • Highly analytical.
  • Prefer knowledge of D365, Power BI, Excel.
  • Individual must be a:
    • Citizen of the United States, or
    • Permanent resident alien of the United States, or
    • Protected individual as defined by 8 U.S.C. 1324b(a)(3) as defined by 22CFR120.15

Additional Requirements:

  • Read, analyze, and interpret financial reports and legal documents.
  • Analyze variances and recommend corrective actions.
  • Respond to common inquiries from regulatory agencies, or members of the business community.
  • Effectively present information to management.
  • Define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
