Responsibilities

Summary: The EHS Specialist provides broad support to the site in the area of Environmental, Health and Safety. The primary objective of the role is providing regular support to site operations at points of execution (on the shop floor). Promotes and contributes to a site culture where Environmental, Health and Safety are engrained as a core value with all employees. Assists EHS program implementation and daily follow-up and trains other employees in key EHS areas as necessary. Ensures on-going excellence in EHS compliance and expected work practices on the shop floor. The EHS Specialist works under the oversight of the Technical Ceramics EHS Director and collaborates directly with the site managers and leadership teams for both the Ceramics and Metals businesses.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Demonstrate thorough knowledge of expected Environment, Health and Safety practices and behaviors.

  • Assists in programs, and maintains regulatory reports in compliance with the local, state, and federal agencies.
  • Implement and participate in company EHS policies, processes and procedures including but not limited to:
    • EHS Committees
    • EHS training
    • Risk Assessments, Internal Inspections and Audits, Incident Investigations
    • Hazard Abatement
    • Confined Space Entry, Electrical Safety, Hot Work
    • Machine Safeguarding, Control of Hazardous Energy (LOTO)
    • Personal Protective Equipment
    • Emergency procedures and equipment
    • Take an active role in site waste management audits and practices
    • ISO 14001-2015 Requirements
    • Chemical compliance
    • Environmental Management
    • Management of Change
  • Assists with the record keeping, and manuals for these programs
  • Assists with annual department goals according to key metrics that are measured throughout the organization.
  • Troubleshoot at risk conditions using RCA problem solving tools such as 5 Why, FMEA.
  • Take an active role to ensure that human safety is never compromised
  • Provide key support to all EHS systems as directed.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of environmental best practices.
  • Support site ISO 14001-2015 certification, document control process, and record maintenance.
  • Troubleshoot various environmental conditions and take appropriate levels of corrective action.
  • Spill response and clean up support
  • Waste management, including tracking, reporting and training
  • Air emission quality and permit compliance
  • Assist in root cause investigations of EHS related incidents.
  • Provide routine training and coaching to site personnel, including the utilization of a computer-based learning and management system
  • Complete required documentation to support all federal, state and local compliance and injury prevention activities
  • Ensure a focus on maintaining compliance with applicable site permits and all site federal, state and local reporting requirements

Qualifications

Minimum Educational and/or Experience Requirements:

A successful candidate for this role will have a minimum of 5 years of demonstrated experience working in a manufacturing environment with primary responsibilities for EHS.  A related degree or professional certification in EHS is desirable, however, not required.

  • Must be capable of sitting and using a computer for the majority of an 8-hour workday.
  • Must be capable of occasionally lifting up to 25 lbs.
  • Must pass pre-employment drug and background investigation.
  • Individual must be a Citizen of the United States, or Permanent resident alien of the United States, or Protected individual as defined by 8 U.S.C. 1324b(a)(3)

Salary Range: $96,000 - $125,000 Annual DOE
