Overview

General Operative- Early/Day shift

Salary       Start Rate £12.36 per hour

Hours        Full Time (37 hours)- 4 days week-Monday to Thursday 7am to 4:30pm
                                                                         or
                                                     5 day week-Monday to Thursday 6am to 2pm & Friday 6am to 11am

Contract   Temporary, Fixed Term 3 Months

Overview

A General Operative is responsible for carrying out a variety of tasks to support the overall operation of a manufacturing or production facility. This role involves working with packing, extrusion, cutting, press, grinding, and lapping processes to ensure efficient production and high-quality output.

 

Responsibilities

  • Packing: Efficiently and accurately pack products according to specifications and ensure they are prepared for shipment or storage. This activity requires a high level of close inspection work.
  • Extrusion: Operate extrusion machinery to produce products according to defined specifications and standards. Monitor the process and adjust as necessary to maintain quality.
  • Cutting: Utilize cutting equipment to shape and size materials as required. Ensure precision and adherence to safety guidelines. Working with moving blades.
  • Press: Operate press machines to form and mould ceramic materials. Monitor the process to prevent defects and ensure consistency.
  • Grinding: Conduct grinding operations to smooth and refine surfaces. Ensure the final product meets quality standards.
  • Lapping: Operate machinery to achieve desired surface finishes and tolerances. Maintain equipment and ensure optimal performance. Involves an element of weight checks during the process.
  • Quality: General operatives are responsible for their own quality checks and working to specific quality standards.
  • Safety Compliance: Adhere to all safety protocols and procedures, ensuring a safe working environment for all employees and compliance with relevant health and safety regulations. Champion a strong EHS culture on site.

Qualification and Skills

  • Experience in a manufacturing or production environment is preferred.
  • Ability to operate and maintain various machinery and equipment.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality.
  • Good problem-solving skills and ability to make quick adjustments.
  • Excellent teamwork and communication skills.
  • Understanding of health and safety regulations.
  • Flexibility to work shifts.

Working Conditions

  • Work may involve standing for long periods and performing repetitive tasks.
  • Proper safety gear and protocols must always be followed.
  • May require lifting heavy objects and working in a noisy environment.
