The Technical Ceramics business of Morgan Advanced Materials engineers high performance functional and structural ceramic materials, components and sub-assemblies to address customer-specific technical challenges.

Responsibilities

Position Summary:
The Senior Accountant is responsible for managing key aspects of the general ledger, ensuring the accuracy of financial records, and supporting the monthly, quarterly, and annual closing processes. This role will play a critical part in maintaining strong internal controls, preparing financial reports, and supporting both internal and external audits. The ideal candidate will have a strong accounting background, excellent analytical skills, and a proactive approach to problem-solving.

 

Key Responsibilities:

 

    • Prepare and post journal entries, accruals, and adjustments during month-end close.
    • Report monthly actuals in HFM (Hyperion Financial Management) or similar consolidation/reporting tools, ensuring data accuracy and timeliness.
    • Maintain and reconcile general ledger accounts, ensuring accuracy and completeness.
    • Support standard cost development and maintenance; analyse cost variances and provide insights to operations.
    • Perform inventory accounting, including cycle counts, inventory reconciliations, and inventory reserves.
    • Monitor and analyse manufacturing expenses (e.g., labour, overhead, scrap) and provide variance reports.
    • Assist with financial statement preparation and internal audits.
    • Develop and maintain reports and KPIs related to manufacturing performance.
    • Ensure compliance with corporate accounting policies and internal controls (SOX or equivalent).
    • Partner with operations and supply chain teams to improve financial performance and process efficiency.
    • Assist in annual budgeting, quarterly forecasts, and periodic cost roll-ups.
    • Identify and implement process improvements and automation opportunities within the finance function.

Qualifications

Qualifications:

 

    • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field (CPA or CMA preferred).
    • 5+ years of progressive accounting experience, with at least 2 years in a manufacturing environment.
    • Strong understanding of cost accounting, inventory valuation, and manufacturing operations.
    • Proficient in ERP systems (e.g., SAP, Oracle, D365, or equivalent) and Microsoft Excel.
    • Knowledge of GAAP and/or IFRS standards.
    • Detail-oriented with strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
    • Ability to work independently, manage deadlines, and collaborate cross-functionally.
    • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
    • Experience with Blackline or FloQast a plus.

Preferred Skills:

  • Experience with ERP implementations or cost reengineering projects.
