The Technical Ceramics business of Morgan Advanced Materials engineers high performance functional and structural ceramic materials, components and sub-assemblies to address customer-specific technical challenges.

Responsibilities

The Trade Compliance Director, Morgan Technical Ceramics, is directly responsible and accountable for management of the GBU’s export compliance activities and the deployment of the Global Trade Compliance and Sanctions strategy.  This position will interface with all levels of the organization and is considered a senior leader and advisor to the GBU president and the executive team. The Director will work across the business to ensure adherence to requirements and strive to find ways to continuously improve the business. This role reports to the Global Director, Trade Compliance, Morgan Technical Ceramics with direct accountability to the GBU President. This is a US remote role with a preference for the candidate to be located in the Northeast United States.

Essential Functions:

  • Manages a small team of trade compliance professionals and supports a global collective of site level trade compliance teams on matters of trade compliance in the Technical Ceramics GBU.
  • Is responsible for executing the implementation of the Global Trade Compliance and Sanctions strategy into the Technical Ceramics GBU, which includes policy creation and control, transaction management processes and instructions.
  • Provides tactical support and guidance on matters pertaining to United States (and overseas trade law) in accordance with regulatory frameworks (including the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR), the Export Administration Regulations (EAR), the UK Export Control Act, amongst others). Providing and supporting the business on matters of classification, sanctions screening, recordkeeping and export-controlled information handling.
  • Reports to management and stakeholders on critical Trade Compliance metrics and key performance indicators.
  • Oversees export licensing applications, submissions and management.
  • Serves as the functional representative for Trade Compliance to support the global business team in the global introduction of a new ERP system.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications and Education Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in related or relevant field. A preference will be given to candidates with an advanced degree in a related field (JD, MBA etc.)
  • 10+ years’ experience in a trade compliance function and leading a functional team as a servant leader.
  • Experience in manufacturing, semiconductor and/or the aerospace sector.
  • Strong understanding and working knowledge of US export regulations including the Export Administration Regulations (EAR), International Traffic in Arms Regulation (ITAR).
  • Experience of
  • Demonstrable experience in creating policy and procedures for compliance activity and successfully deploying in a manufacturing/production environment.
  • Experience with external Trade Compliance systems (SNAP R, DECCS, AES, Screening Software etc.)

 

Additional Requirements:

  • Familiarity with ERP systems
  • MS Office proficiency
  • Must be able to work well with subordinates, peers, and superiors in all departments of the Company as well as external contacts
  • This position requires use of information which is subject to the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR), Export Administration Regulations (EAR), and Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC). Individual must be a:
    • Citizen of the United States, or
    • Permanent resident alien of the United States, or
    • Protected individual as defined by 8 U.S.C. 1324b(a)(3) as defined by 22CFR120.15
