Responsibilities

The EHS Engineer provides broad support to the site in the area of Environmental, Health and Safety. Promotes and contributes to a site culture where Environmental, Health and Safety is engrained as a core value with all employees. Assists with various EHS program development, implementations, and conducts EHS training to employees.  Helps ensure EHS compliance with all company, federal, state, and local regulations and policies pertaining to workplace safety and safe work practices in the facility.

 

Essential Functions:

  • Lead and/or participate in the following:

                    Required EHS training for employees

                    Site Safety Committee

                    Risk Assessments

                    Internal Safety Inspections and Audits

                    Incident Investigations

                    Incident Prevention Activities

  • Take an active role in site waste management audits and practices
  • Ensure compliance with Hazardous Waste handling and disposal
  • Demonstrate knowledge of environmental best practices
  • Troubleshoot various environmental conditions and take appropriate levels of corrective action
  • Complete required documentation to support all federal, state and local compliance
  • Complete all federal, state and local EHS reporting requirements
  • Review, update, and implement site level programs to maintain compliance with regulations and company policy.
  • Assists the site leadership with driving thinkSAFE forward to achieve continuous improvement in the effectiveness of visible safety leadership activities.
  • Recommend and drive continuous improvement activities and implementation of engineering changes related to safety, ergonomics, employee health, environmental compliance, environmental performance, and reduction in the use of energy and water.
  • Follow all state and federal regulatory requirements applicable to Company permitting, reporting, monitoring, and recordkeeping for air emissions, sewer discharges, storm water runoff, chemical storage, waste management and community right-to-know.
  • Act as the site’s regulatory contact for the city, DEP and EPA.

 

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in a field that provides background for EHS management in an industrial setting (e.g., engineering or other technical field, environmental management, safety).  An Associates degree in an EHS curriculum may be considered. 3-5 years’ experience in a manufacturing environment in an EHS-related role is preferred.

 

 

Additional Requirements:

  • Knowledge of OSHA regulations
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills, and the ability able to communicate with audiences that have a broad range of EHS background and understanding
  • Training & presentation skills
  • Computer skills (Microsoft Office)
  • Reading and comprehension skills/legal & regulatory interpretation
  • Understand the safe operation and environmental impacts of equipment and processes
  • Must be able to work well with subordinates, peers and superiors in all departments of the Company
  • Must be able to work well with external contacts of the Company

 

Physical Requirements:

  • Must be capable of working at a computer for extended periods of tim
  • Must be able to wear Personal Protective Equipment if required
  • Must be able to lift 35 pounds
  • Must be capable of traveling within the US

 

Individual must be a:

  • Citizen of the United States, or
  • Permanent resident alien of the United States, or
  • Protected individual as defined by 8 U.S.C. 1324b(a)(3) as defined by 22CFR120.15
