The Technical Ceramics business of Morgan Advanced Materials engineers high performance functional and structural ceramic materials, components and sub-assemblies to address customer-specific technical challenges.

Responsibilities

The Site Leader reports to the General Manager (GM) and will lead the site’s Site Leadership Team (SLT), in full compliance with the Morgan Responsible Business Programme.  The SLT is made up of all key functions/departments that together manage the site.  The reporting relation will vary by site, except for HR, Finance, Commercial, and Technology which will have centralized GM reporting.

 

The Site Leader will have full responsibility for meeting Sites P&L budgets, including but not limited to meeting Rev, GM, EBITA, and Cash targets.  Site Manager will also have full responsibility for meeting Operational Goals, including but not limited to, OTD, Arrears, Yield, DPPM, & Inventory.  The Site Leader is expected to achieve the above through active participation and deployment of the Morgan LEAN Manufacturing System aka Morgan Production System (MPS).

 

S/he should create an exciting culture of active leadership to manage the operational business, deliver positive employee relations, establish operational effectiveness and achieve attractive returns.  S/he will create an environment where effective two-way communication is the norm and employees’ safety is ensured; striving for continuous improvement in all business areas.  They will represent the site positively to all key stakeholders including customers, suppliers, local authorities and the public.

The Site Leader is responsible for leading the various teams on site to safely deliver the committed results in terms of sales & production output, to budget and agreed KPIs. 

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities: 

Oversight and responsibility for the following departments:

  • Production / Quality / EHS / Purchasing / Maintenance / IT / Production & Process Engineering / Operational Excellence / Supply Chain  / ERP
  • Deliver profitable sales revenue to committed budgets, performance improvements and cost reduction targets in order to contribute to overall Engineered Ceramic KPI’s & targets

Finance:

  • Manage Production costs including labour and materials to achieve or exceed budgeted levels in order to consistently drive profit growth as agreed with General Manager
  • Analyse possible business risks and mitigate the identified risks by implementing corrective action plans
  • Work proactively with Finance Leaders to ensure compliance with financial, legal & regulatory procedures, laws and other requirements

Operations & Excellence:

  • Responsible for working with Operations & Excellence team to deploy and build Morgan Production Systems (MPS) as defined by these 5 key pillars; Strategy Deployment, Organizational Development, Leadership Commitment, Lean Tools, & SIOP.
  • Support/Manage transformation project necessary to enable the achievement of significant Capacity Development & Optimization, Cycle Time reduction, COGS Reduction, PPV, and efficiency improvements.
  • Support identifying and recommending Value Stream specific and site-wide improvement initiatives and opportunities.  Lead/coordinate continuous improvement projects on current value stream to optimize production flow and improve productivity.
  • Lead and/or coordinate Kaizens and similar team-based improvement initiatives with the OPEX lead for the site.
  • Drive ERP system full deployment and functionality to support optimal planning, standard costs/hrs accuracy to drive productivity and launch advanced scheduling and planning.

Strategy:

  • Lead development, implementation & maintenance of near to mid-term site strategies in order to create a cohesive unit, responsive to increasing demands and changing market dynamics. 
  • Assist with development of an annual Operational budget as requested to assist in delivery of business objectives and year on year improvements in the performance of Safety, Quality, Cost, Delivery & People

Growth:

  • Manage the production ramp of new products and pro-actively work with Sales, Engineering, Technical and Quality teams to ensure Operational capabilities match current and future customer requirements.
  • Build long-lasting relationships with key customers through operational performance & Discipline, targeting superior customer satisfaction at a reasonable cost to the company
  • Strive for continuous improvements in operational excellence (customer satisfaction, on time delivery, efficient quality complaint resolution etc)

People & Culture:

  • Secure, retain and upskill the people necessary for success with this job description
  • Spend an appropriate amount of time on the shop floor walking the four corners & supporting the regular DGA meetings Actively support collaborative behavior, sharing best practice with colleagues across other business units
  • Ensure site collaborative behavior through the launch and establishment of Daily Group Accountability (DGA) process.
  • Foster functional and cross-functional relationships between Site broader Technical Ceramics sites, as necessary to achieve optimal performance .
  • Work proactively with local HR to assure compliance with relevant laws.

Environmental, Safety, Risk & Compliance:

  • To be committed to & role model a strong EHS culture on site which includes ensuring that safety performance indicators are regularly reviewed and addressed, ensuring that all EHS policies, procedures and statutory documentation is up to date, adhered to and available to all employees on site, ensuring that all staff are competent, adequately trained and supported to enable them to carry out their duties safely. Our ultimate goal is “Zero Harm”
  • Ensure that the site, visitors and contractors are without exception aware of and adhere to all Morgan Advanced Materials policies and procedures with regard to EHS
  • Maintain a robust internal control environment to comply with local regulations and Morgan Advanced Materials plc policies
  • Own the ‘ThinkSafe’ initiative and personally lead the development of the Morgan safety culture at the New Bedford facility. 

Qualifications

MInimum Qualifications and Education Requirements 

  • Graduate with a degree in a relevant field of study (engineering, operations/ general management, etc.)
  • Fluency in local language
  • Experience of managing production, plant engineering, EHS, quality, and supply chain departments
  • Previous experience of change management
  • Financial acumen and numeric aptitude - a thorough understanding of financials, commercials and budgets.
  • Proven track record in management
  • Strong people management skills and cultural awareness
  • Experience of leading a successful EHS culture
  • Previous experience of working within a large organization is preferable
  • Understanding of ceramic and/or refractory materials would be desirable
  • Previous experience of working in the materials, glass making, metal forming or casting industry would be advantageous
  • Demonstrable experience of dealing with employee relations issues
  • Individual must be a:
