Responsibilities

 

This person is directly responsible for management of workers engaged in setting up, installing, repairing and maintaining process/production equipment, machinery and utilities in all areas of the plant.  Supervises and follows up on the quality of work and the progress toward meeting deadlines. Trains, provides guidance, and directs the activities of all subordinates during the scheduled shift and directs subordinate supervisors to do the same in their assigned areas.  In doing so he/she enforces maintenance guidelines, company rules, plant safety regulations, arranges for coverage of unexpected absenteeism, and maintains required process and department records to ensure effective and productive performance.  He/she also determines, recommends, and coordinates department staffing and equipment needs.

Qualifications

Essential Functions:

  1. Analyze repair orders to determine the skills, materials, tools and methods required, prepare estimate of time and manpower requirement for completing the job, requisition required materials and supplies, direct the machining and fabrication of metal parts of special tools as required.
  2. Schedule weekly repair orders according to operating conditions, availability of manpower and materials.
  3. Maintain surveillance of quality and quantity of work in progress to ensure that deadlines are met and desired results are obtained.
  4. Review maintenance manuals, blueprints and other references for specifications and performance information.
  5. Observe operating conditions of equipment and machines where excessive breakage and defects in products occur to determine cause of malfunction and direct necessary repairs.
  6. Train new employees, recommend status changes, enforce safety regulations, and administrate company policies and disciplinary measures in accordance with company policy.
  7. Assist in preparation of operating budget; strive to contain costs within approved limits.
  8. Maintains a safe workplace through observations, enforcement of plant rules, and communications of potential hazards to management and maintenance for correction.
  9. Instills a mentality of 5S in all subordinates to maintain a clean and orderly operation.
  10. Evaluates and contributes to process improvement opportunities.
  11. Directs cross training to allow for a flexible workforce and qualify employees for increases.
  12. Maintain timely attendance and timekeeping records through provided payroll systems.
  13. Conducts coaching and discipline as necessary in accordance with company rules.
  14. Interacts with support functions to get help when necessary or provide help when requested.
  15. Performs other duties as assigned.

 

Minimum Qualifications and Education Requirements

Associate degree or advanced manufacturing training equivalent to two years, or equivalent manufacturing experience. Requires strong mathematical skills, mechanical attitude, good comprehension, and ability to use standard systems in completing activities.

 

 

Additional Requirements:

  • Must be familiar with Microsoft Word-Processing and Spreadsheet (Excel) software
  • Must be able to clearly present ideas and reports in written and verbal format
  • Must be able to read engineering drawings and specifications.
  • Must be able to work well with subordinates, peers and superiors in all departments of the Company
  • Must be able to work well with external contacts of the Company
  • Must have good time management, planning and negotiation skills
  • Must adhere to all Company policies

 

 

Physical Requirements:

  • Must be capable of sitting and using a computer for the majority of an 8-hour workday
  • Must be capable of walking and standing for the majority of an 8-hour workday
  • Must be capable of climbing stairs
  • Must be able to lift 35 pounds
