Responsibilities

Major Responsibilities:

The Operations Excellence (OpEx) Manager will be responsible for driving Continuous Improvement (CI) at the Morgan site level. This role will work with Site Leadership to identify key improvement areas, deploy both tactical and strategic Lean Systems within an operating framework to deliver performance improvement goals.

 

Realizing these goals is assured through implementation of the Morgan Production System (MPS) and development of a strong CI culture at the site. MPS is our operating system including Strategy Deployment, Talent Culture, Committed Leadership, Lean & Quality Tools, SIOP and ERP, and Performance Management. This role will deploy Lean tools such as 6S, Kaizen, SMED, VSM, Andon, Bottleneck, Poka-Yoke, KPI, Hoshin Kanri, OEE, PDCA, FMEA/RCCA, and daily controls and visuals to measure Key Process Indicators (KPI’s) to drive improvement.

 

The OpEx Manager will be measured by the site progress to objectives defined in the strategic deployment process annually. Support of these objectives includes but is not limited to, working with employees on improvement projects, developing teams as a facilitator, teacher or support with data analysis, creation of visual management aids, creation of standard work, aiding management in root cause problem solving, and developing Value Streams and associated value stream maps.

 

This role will work closely with production, supply-chain management, planning and senior management and will partner with Business Unit OpEx Leaders while sharing best practices and fostering collaboration.

Qualifications

Essential Functions

  • Create, and foster a Lean CI culture at the site, with effective change leadership.
  • Deliver a competent, CI team environment by developing and delivering training in CI concepts and philosophy not only the shop floor, but in administrative settings as well.
  • Develop “change agent” employees, in all aspects of lean manufacturing, waste reduction, team effectiveness and continuous improvement.
  • Develop and maintain a continuous performance and quality improvement effort by establishing a daily discipline of KPI measurement and standardized reporting with system tools across site functions.
  • Identify opportunities by establishing appropriate measurement systems, operational audits, and kaizen events, and realize those opportunities through the selection, scope, and planning of specific improvement & CI projects for both value stream, and site-wide improvement initiatives.
  • Lead and conduct studies in cost, quality, productivity, flow, value stream mapping and root cause analysis and with data driven focus, refine processes to make performance improvements.
  • Collaborate with regional Opex and Site Leadership to deploy and develop the Morgan Production System Framework.
  • Develop X-Matrix/Strategy Deployment (Hoshin Kanri) in collaboration with OpEx and Site Leadership using standardized software tools to manage and report results.
  • Manage transformation projects necessary to enable productivity gains through Cycle Time Reduction, COGS Reduction, PPV, Scrap, and efficiency improvements (waste reduction).
  • Manage and maintain Initiatives, Metrics and Targets, using defined software tools and provide administrative support for those tools to all site users.
  • Lead and develop cross functional CI project teams.

 

Key Measures & Milestones:

  • Financial Performance (Revenue, Margin, EBITA, Working Capital)
  • Operations Performance (Safety, COTTP, Arrears, Scrap % of Sales, Inventory Turns, WIP/Lead Time)
  • Operational and Suppliers Key Measures: OTTP, SOTIF, PPV, CDPPM, SDPPM
  • Voice of the Customer (OTD, Quality, DPPM, Arrears, Profitable Growth; Customer Satisfaction, Ease of Business)

 

Organization Relationship:

  • Reports to the Regional OpEx Leader and Site Manager

 

JOB REQUIREMENTS:

  • Bachelor’s degree, or equivalent leadership experience in a technical discipline such as engineering, or quality with experience in a Continuous Improvement (CI) manufacturing environment.
  • 5 years of experience using Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma/DMAIC methodology in the capacity of a Manufacturing Engineer, Lean Coordinator, or similar position.
  • Proven leadership skills and cultural awareness with a track record in developing teams through change management to deliver a high-performance culture.
  • Proficient in Lean Tool deployment, and ability to train teams with solid understanding to support.
  • An understanding of ceramic processing and /or product assembly is desirable.

 

  • Must be proficient in Microsoft Office products (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Must be able to communicate and interact effectively with employees at all levels of the organization from Production to Management, both verbally and in writing, including preparing presentations.
  • Experience with statistics and Enterprise Resource Planning systems.
  • Demonstrated experience in conducting Value Stream Mapping exercises and leading teams through step function changes.
  • Demonstrated experience in driving functional excellence initiatives. Experience in conducting and leading lean kaizen events both on the shop floor and in transactional departments, addressing production to take takt time, targets & results, and daily /hourly/monthly performance measures.
  • This position requires access to technology, materials, software, or hardware that is controlled by export laws of the US Hired employees are required to provide proof of either US citizenship or Permanent US Residency.

Technical Requirements:

  • A complete understanding of supply chain management and lean principles.

Physical Requirements:

  • May need to lift to 25 pounds.
  • May need to climb stairs.
  • May need to bend, stoop, walk, and sit.
