The Technical Ceramics business of Morgan Advanced Materials engineers high performance functional and structural ceramic materials, components and sub-assemblies to address customer-specific technical challenges.

Our largest facility in San Juan del Rio is in an exciting period of growth and looking for a professional who can support the finance team to take it to the next level.  Morgan is in process of implementing United Kingdom Sox program and upgrading its controls for the new expanded location.  The site is the largest manufacturing location in the Morgan Group within a year, it is a bright and pleasant environment. All employees at Morgan work in accordance with best practice and the Morgan Responsible Business Program, take an active part in delivering a high commitment to Environment, Health and Safety under Morgan’s global programs.

 

OVERVIEW & SCOPE OF ROLE

The Assistant Controller will carry out accounting, analysis, reporting and control activities for the site.  The Assistant Controller is responsible for the oversite of the accounting staff, ensuring that accounting practices, and procedures are maintained.

The Assistant Controller will be responsible for supporting the Controller and the overall financial activities for the division. The Assistant Controller is responsible for monthly and year-end closing and related reporting to the headquarters in the UK, journal entries, reconciliations, ensure the integrity of the general ledger and system, support monthly accounting reports to management.  The assistant controller will also support the maintenance and development of financial controls for the Certech Cores organization.  Interact with financial management and leadership regarding financial and operational information.

The Assistant Controller will work closely with the global finance teams to ensure important coordination on processes, information sharing, construction in process, supplier payments and other business-critical functions.

Essential Functions:

  • Prepare and issue timely monthly and annual financial reports for internal and Corporate use. Support preparation of monthly forecast with actual information.
  • Oversee 4 staff and support the Controller with finance activities (cost, accounting, AP, VAT recovery, Taxes)
  • Prepare or review reconciliations of balance sheet accounts including Cash, Constructoin in Process, AP, Inventory, Fixed Assets VAT recovery, taxes and intercompany
  • Analyze reconciliations, balances, variances and recommend corrective actions as needed
  • Monitor and ensure the business maintains robust internal controls and documentation which will ensure compliance with financial regulations and group policies.

Interact with the warehouse & supply chain to assure the correct support and documentation process.

  • Work with the finance team to develop efficient and effective reporting and processes for finance functions
  • Interact with internal and external audit to support audits lead efforts to provide necessary records and respond to queries.
  • Support annual budget preparation and reporting, including development of tools for future use.
  • Coordinating with the controller to ensure legal/statutory compliance and tax efficiency for the MX operations.
  • Prepare or ensure preparation of reports required by regulatory agencies as needed.
  • Participate in annual physical inventory
  • Assist requests for future software implementation
  • Assist in the process of monthly savings reports T
  • Other duties as assigned by Controller
  • Initial 3-6 months will be learning the systems, support new processes arising from expanded business, formalize and reinforce the controlled finance process for materially correct financial statements
  • Work with Site Managers to review cost variances and assist in developing mitigation plans.

Qualifications

  • Eight to ten years related experience/training
  • Bachelor´s degree in Finance, Accounting (Licenciatura en contaduría)
  • Experience of ownership of financial reporting and control working for a global multinational
  • Experience in Mex GAAP and exposure to IFRS
  • Experience of operational/manufacturing finance (e.g., financial control, cost accounting, variance analysis, etc.)
  • Exposure to SOX compliance
  • Highly analytical
  • Proficient in Excel
  • Prefer knowledge of JD Edwards or any other ERP
  • IMMEX and Maquiladora awareness
  • Import & Export awareness
  • Working knowledge of English
